After much wrangling the B-17 Flying Fortress that became known as the "Swamp Ghost" now has found a new home at the Pacific Aviation Museum on Oahu, Hawaii.

Kundiawa BSP

Sovereign Wealth Fund

The Bank of PNG deputy governor Benny Popoitai is confident that the sovereign wealth fund (SWF) will be up and running before first LNG exports next year.

New Highlands Uni

Prime Minister Peter O'Neill has disclosed the Office of Higher Education will begin preparatory work for a new university in the Highlands region. He said 17,000 students completed Grade 12 last year but only 4,000 could be fitted into the higher education system, which was a major concern.

UPNG Graduation

Over 2000 students have graduated in various fields of studies with Masters, Honours, Bachelor Degrees and Diplomas from the University of Papua New Guinea.





Unitech Graduation

1043 students graduated at the 45th University of Technology (Unitech) graduation. The university awarded 427 Diplomas, 80 Advanced Professional Diplomas, conferred 512 Degrees, five Graduate Certificates, seven Graduate Diplomas and 13 Masters Degrees.

Aussie Federal Police

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) will continue to support the PNG police, AFP assistant commissioner Mandy Newton says. Newton told The National last Friday that AFP had 16 officers working with PNG police.

Dry Dock

The Curtain Brothers' multi-million kina dry dock facility on Motukea Island outside Port Moresby is expected to open by the middle of next year. According to Curtain Brothers' general manager Justin McGann it is the biggest single project outside the mining sector. The dry dock will be about 300 metres long, 48 metres wide at the door, 57 metres wide at the base and have a base level of minus 10 metres.

South Africa's Sasol, the world's biggest producer of motor fuels from coal, is pulling out of its five year natural gas exploration project in Papua New Guinea.

Routine Water Cuts

Cuts by the provider of water to Port Moresby, Eda Ranu, are to carry out routine repair and maintenance work at the Mt Eriama treatment plant just outside the National Capital. The work is vital to avoid the machinery breaking down altogether leading to major water problems in the city

POM Golf

The Port Moresby Golf Club can now be called Royal Port Moresby Golf Club. The club is second in the country to receive the title from the Queen. His Excellency Governor General of PNG, Sir Michael Ogio and wife lady Essmay, Patron of the Port Moresby Golf Club, Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare were present at this royal naming event.

Highlands Highway

A broken down truck along the Highlands Highway is often seen as a gift of cargo by people passing by. A truck that recently broke down at six-mile near Goroka in the Eastern Highlands didn't suffer as the local youth refrained from removing parts (such as tyres, windscreens, batteries) to sell to other motorists.

High ranking officials from the Civil Aviation Authority (CASA) have visited Coffs Harbour to find out more about the city's role in training Air Niugini pilots.

The first report on the trafficking of people in PNG has found adults and children are being pushed into sexual exploitation, forced labour and domestic servitude.

PNG Sorcery Act

Prime Minister O'Neill said he hopes to have the PNG Sorcery Act dismantled during the current session of parliament but acknowledged it will likely take longer. PNG has come under increased international pressure to repeal the act, which critics say is being used as a defence by people accused of killing alleged sorcerers.

Lutheran Centenary

Lutherans throughout the Finschhafen District in Morobe Province have celebrated the 100 years anniversary of arrival of the missionaries in the area. The four-day event attracted Christians throughout Finschhafen District as well as other parts of Morobe to Silimana village for the celebration.

Rules for Political Parties

PNG cabinet has rejected a proposal by the nation's registrar of political parties that would force small parliamentary parties to amalgamate with larger ones. According to the PNG electoral commission, there are currently 21 political parties and 16 independents in PNG's 111-member, single House of Parliament.
