PNG Military Aviation
The Defence Forces Air Transport Wing (ATW) will buy four PAC 750 (Paciifc Aerospace) short landing and take-off aeroplanes suitable for rural airstrips. The aircraft will be inspected by the PNG Defence Force in New Zealand in Wellington.
In a recent interview, ATW's Director of Air Operations, Colonel Ron Hosea says in order to match the administrative instructions to increase manpower in the force, they would need at least a squadron of planes on roster.

Air Niugini Airfares
Air Niugini will be reducing its airfares for the second time this year on both domestic and international sectors, effective 1st March, 2015. Chief Executive Officer, Simon Foo said the further reduction in airfares is due to the continuous drop in crude oil prices on the world market, allowing the fuel surcharge to be further reduced.

Twin Tower Joint Venture
The Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea and IPBC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop prime real estate in the Central Business District (CBD) of Port Moresby.
The MOU is the first step towards the landmark development. It was signed for and on behalf of the IPBC by Managing Director Wasantha Kumarasiri and Mr Erastus Kamburi, Chief Legal Officer, IPBC; and for and on behalf of the Anglican Church of PNG by Archbishop Clyde Igara and Mr John Francis Kaupa, Member of the Provincial Board of Trustees.

Moresby School Condemned
Classes at Butuka Elementary in the Moresby South Electorate of Port Moresby have has to be suspended following a notice from National Capital District Commission Health, condemning the elementary school for not having proper toilets and classrooms.
The school has been forced to construct a pit toilet, as a temporary relief measure.

EM TV reports - there is not enough effort by the government to protect Papua New Guinean languages from becoming extinct. Out of 800 languages (in Papua New Guinea), half of that number has less than 2,000 speakers; that means half of our languages are threatened.

Which language or group of languages has the shortest alphabet? - Rotokas from the North Solomons. This is in fact the shortest of all languages in the world with 11 letters. These 11 are made up of 5 vowels and 6 consonants: A, E, I, O, U, B, G, K, P, R, T. It is spoken by about 4300 people.

Pacific Games Baton
The 2015 Pacific Games Baton has recently been revealed at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Port Moresby. The baton, designed and created by well renowned Papua New Guinean artist, Gickmai Kundun, is symbolic of Papua New Guinea's rich and diverse cultural heritage.

Vaki Pleads Not Guilty
Police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki has appeared in court charged with contempt in relation to a warrant issued for the arrest of Prime Minister Peter O'Neill last year. Vaki through his lawyer John Griffin QC pleaded not guilty to the contempt charges before Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia in the National Court in Waigani.

National ID Project
Prime Minister Peter O'Neill has officially launched the Papua New Guinea national identity (PNGNID) project that he said will be of great assistance in planning and delivering government services. Nigerian Deported
A Nigerian believed to be living illegally in the country and married to a local woman has been deported. Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration Rimbink Pato announced the deportation of a serial unlawful entrant to the country and suspected organized crime fugitive Mr Cedric Sedibe Nduduzie.

Child Protection Legislation
The government is amending its child protection legislation to give courts the ability to take a child away from its family.
Local reports say the Youth Minister Delilah Gore has said the change would allow children to be placed in foster care and hold parents accountable for their neglect.
