Fly PNG Flag on Vessels
The National Fisheries Authority (NFA) has tasked all foreign owned vessels to carry PNG flags in order to fish the country's waters for tuna. NFA deputy managing director Ludwig Kumoru said the reasons involved are that Papua New Guinea can have some control over its fisheries industry.

Police Donation (RPNGC)
The Australian Government has given eight vehicles to police. President of the Australian Senate, Senator Stephen Parry, said the vehicles would be used exclusively by police officers attached to the Family and Sexual Violence Unit in eight PNG provinces. The eight provinces are Manus, Madang, Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Morobe, Hela, Southern Highlands, Gulf and National Capital District.

Air Niugini
A young, Papua New Guinean female pilot has made history by becoming a first woman to have achieved her command on Dash 8 aircraft under Air Niugini's pilot cadet program. 29 year old Captain Beverly Pakii's achievement is the first for the airline since Air Niugini's pilot cadet program started in the 1970s. Captain Pakii started with Air Niugini as a cadet in 2004. She completed her training at PPT Flying School at Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia where Air Niugini sends its cadets every year.

Indonesians Arrest PNG Drug Smugglers
Seventeen Papua New Guinean's are likely to face death penalty in Indonesia. They were charged and locked behind bars after being caught smuggling marijuana into the Indonesian province of Jayapura.

Port Moresby General Hospital
Top Chinese doctors who are serving at Port Moresby General Hospital under a health bilateral arrangement are alarmed at the lack of specialist doctors at the hospital. One of the specialists said it was disheartening to learn that after 40 years of Independence PNG had only trained "two and half neurosurgeons and one died and only one and half are working, the fulltime neurosurgeon just graduated and is working in Madang."

North Wahgi Electrification
A major rural electrification project has been launched in the North Wahgi District of Jiwaka province. Two feasibility studies have already been concluded at Nondugul and Banz.

Kavieng Prison
The Kavieng prison is overcrowded with inmates mostly serving time for minor offences. The prison built to hold 208 prisoners was spilling over attempting to house over 400. Prison commander Philip Gabutold has said that he has been able to reduce this to 367 thanks to the efforts of stakeholders in the law and justice sector.

Jackson's Duty Free
Thanks to a partnership between CPL and Fiji's Motibhai Group of Companies, which has been running duty free shops in Fiji for more than 40 years, Port Moresby International Airport will receive a much needed facelift with new duty free stores located within the departure and arrival areas of the Jacksons International Airport under the trading name of Prouds. It is expected the shops will be completed in time for the 2015 Pacific Games in July.

Pacific Games Village
Pacific Games Gold sponsor, Brian Bell Home Centres, has begun installing over 4000 bed frames into the accommodation blocks at the Pacific Games Village. Pacific Foam Industry has over one thousand mattresses ready to go for the project. A shipment of over sixteen thousand fitted sheets and bed sheets are expected to arrive on the 18th of May.
The Pacific Games Village will be handed over to the University of Papua New Guinea as student accommodation when the Games finish.

Yamamoto Site
The site where a Mitsubishi G4M 'Betty' crashed near Kokopo village in the Makis Constituency of the Buin District on the Island of Bougainville will be opened to interested tourists. International tourists will be charged K150 to visit the historic site.
Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto was aboard the plane when it crashed. He was one of the masterminds behind the Pearl Harbor attack.

Oil and Gas Fundraising
Papua New Guinea's National Petroleum Company (NPCP) said it is looking to raise billions of dollars to help fund new oil and gas projects, as the South Pacific country battles a sharp slump in forecast revenue from a plunge in prices for the commodities. NPCP holds a 16.6-percent stake in the PNG LNG project, which operator ExxonMobil Corp wants to expand, and has rights to take up to a 20-percent stake in the Elk-Antelope fields, the country's largest undeveloped gas resource.

Namah Accused of Misconduct
Former opposition leader, Belden Namah, has been referred to the public prosecutor over allegations of misconduct. Mr Namah confirmed he had received notification of the ombudsman's investigation and told local media his lawyers were working on the issue. His case is the latest in a string of high profile referrals, including PNG's Prime Minister Peter O'Neill and four serving government ministers.

Unauthorised Games Merchandise
Port Moresby 2015 has again warned unauthorised goods manufacturers, distributors and retailers to not produce, buy or sell items carrying the Pacific Games' official logos, following the raid of a warehouse in Papua New Guinea's capital from where branded toilet paper was being distributed.

Many years ago ex Air Niugini flight attendant, Cathi Hiob, saw a market to show eels to tourists cycling along the Boluminski Highway at Laraibina village in New Ireland province. Laisi Hiob said "They come here to see the eels. This is a registered tourist attraction. The story of these eels has gone all over the world. Every day we have visitors."
