Gas Powered Generator

The National Executive Council has approved a 57.78 megawatts gas-powered electricity generating project to be constructed near the Liquefied Natural Gas site outside Port Moresby. The announcement was made by the Minister for Public Enterprises and State Investments, William Duma, on the 10th of November during a ground-breaking ceremony for the Kilakila substation in Port Moresby.

Power Projects On Hold

Power projects for two districts in PNG have been put on hold due to the unavailability of land. PNG Power Ltd (PPL) acting CEO, Alex Oa, says the projects for Kavieng in New Ireland Province and Alotau, Milne Bay Province, have been stalled while the land issue is addressed.

Community Health Work

Health services in PNG are mainly provided by Community Health Workers (CHWs), who have two years of training provided by Health Colleges, after which they are allocated their aid post roles, usually to rural or remote areas. Encouragingly, many of the young graduates are eager to serve the communities of PNG and have a genuine passion for their work. However, once working in the rural aid post, CHWs find themselves battling with an irregular and unreliable supply of health care products, lack of access to continued professional development, professional isolation and lack of support.

Lae Christian School of Tomorrow

The Lae Christian School of Tomorrow (LCST), operated by the Bible Church, has teamed up with Markham Culverts Limited and the governor of Morobe Province to give an early Christmas present for the destitute youth of the province with a ground-breaking ceremony signifying commence construction of a new four in one double storey classroom for semi-literate and illiterate youth.

Manus Detention Centre

Refugees occupying the former detention centre on Manus Island say police have destroyed shelters and tipped out stored rainwater. About 600 men are refusing to leave the centre on the island's naval base, despite the PNG government threatening to use force to evict them.

Hired Police Vehicles Vital

The Crime rate in Lae would increase dramatically if all the vehicles hired by Lae police are to be returned, says Lae law and order chairman Sam Oyaya. Police Reservist Dies

Two more qualifiers have been confirmed for Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 in San Francisco with Papua New Guinea's men and women booking their tickets through the Oceania Rugby Sevens Championship in Suva, Fiji. Deputy Prime Minister and Member for Alotau, Charles Abel, was given a traditional Kiriwina welcome when he officiated at the EPC games last weekend at the Bisini Colts Oval.
