SP Games Relay
The South Pacific Games Relay is making its way around the country. Sponsored by Oil Search the relay baton visted the Baton was scheduled to visit many towns and villages including Vanimo Town, Bewani Government Border Post, Wutung Village, Musu Village, Yako Village, Waramo Village, Lido Village and the Surf Club, Vanimo Green District Office, Vanimo Primary School, Vanimo General Hospital, Sandaun Provincial Government, Dali Beach, Sissano Lagoon, Tumeleo Island and Aitape on the third day.

Barrick Gold Compensate Women
A Canada-based gold mining company is paying compensation to a group of women and girls who allege they were assaulted and raped by police and security guards at the company's mine in PNG.
The Commissioner of Police has asked for a full explanation over the recent mass break-out of over 30 suspects and remandees at the Boroko Police Station. Four murder suspects were among the group of escapees.
A 7.5 magnitude earthquake has rattled East New Britain. The epicentre of the quake was just 50 kilometres from Kokopo in East New Britain.
Wangaratta boys Lloyd and Liam Wright have been selected to play for PNG at the South Pacific Games. While the teenagers are Australian-born, their mother, Helen, is Papua New Guinean, making the brothers eligible to represent the island nation, but 15-year-old Liam was stunned to make it through selections.
Pacific Games Tickets
Tickets for the 15th Pacific Games have gone on sale. The sale of tickets was officially launched at BSP Harbour City Branch in Port Moresby.
The following BSP branches around PNG will be Points of Sale for Tickets: Lae (Top Town & Market), Wewak, Madang, Mt. Hagen, Goroka, Kokopo, Kimbe, Buka and Alotau. In Port Moresby, the general public can purchase at Downtown, Harbour City, Boroko, Waigani Drive, Waigani Banking Centre, Vision City Kiosk and Waterfront Kiosk. The Kiosks are strictly Card Based transactions.
Malcolm Fraser's Funeral
The Prime Minister, Peter O'Neill, has paid tribute on behalf of Papua New Guinea to former Australian Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Malcolm Fraser AC CH, at his funeral service at Scott's Church in Melbourne, Australia.
ExxonMobil and PNG Power Limited have signed an agreement for ExxonMobil to provide electricity to the National Capital District electricity grid. The agreement could result in a K35 million saving on power generation cost from July to December. The agreement has come just in time to ensure enough electricity will be available for the South Pacific Games. Under the agreement, ExxonMobil will supply up to 25 megawatts of electricity to PNG Power.
The Hunters returned to winning ways with a comprehensive 38-10 victory over Tweed Heads Seagulls in Kokopo to move up to second in the Queensland Cup rugby league standings.
Four Air Niugini cadet engineers have left for studies at the Air New Zealand Aviation Institute in Christchurch, New Zealand. Air Niugini Chief Executive Officer, Simon Foo said Air Niugini invests a lot of money and resources into training engineers and pilots each year and urged the cadets to be focused and make Air Niugini and the country proud.

33 year old Ryan Pini has won silver at the Australian National Swimming Championships in the men's 50 metre butterfly finals.
Five foreigners allegedly involved in the production of fake passports, visas and work permits in Port Moresby have been detained by Immigration officers, police say.
The saga surrounding the alleged misuse of funds at the National Provident Fund a decade or so is set to appear in court again.

Southern police commander Jacob Singura says seven police vehicles in Popondetta are being used without proper registration.

An editorial in The National Newspaper says control of social media is necessary.
Settler's Water Supply
People in the 6-Mile area in the Moresby-South electorate are to get a proper water supply. The K360,000 project was recently commissioned by local MP Justin Tkatchenko and Eda Ranu chief executive officer Henry Mokono.
Internet Fraud Warning
The United States Embassy in Port Moresby has warned Papua New Guineans of growing internet-based fraud. It says every day, people around the world have fallen victim to swindlers, who steal money from trusting individuals through fraud and deception.
The National Events Council has presented a cheque for over K300,000 to the PNG Defence Force for new uniforms.
PNG Rugby Cup
Digicel PNG has signed a sponsorship agreement with PNG's premier national rugby league (PNGNRL). Digicel will contribute PGK 1.2 million to support PNG's premier national rugby league competition, the Digicel Cup, this year.
Bouncing Govt Cheques
Acting Finance Secretary Dr Ken Ngangan has said that due to the new Bank of PNG cheque clearing system some cheques issued by Government departments may bounce due to teething issues.
Vale Doctor Ray Anere
Doctor Ray Anere from the National Research Institute has passed away. Director Dr. Thomas Webster says Dr. Anere's passing as a loss for the country as a whole, describing him as a great intellectual, and a leading political scientist who gave the best of his time, expertise, and knowledge for PNG's development. Dr Anere was one of the first Papua New Guinean to be awarded a Doctorate in Political Science in 1993.
Moresby Clean Up
The National Capital District Governor has contributed K1 million of taxpayers money towards the campaign to clean up the city before the opening of the Pacific Games on the 4th of July.
Remove Ugly Fencing
Port Moresby governor, Powes Parkop has called on the city residents to remove or pull down all metal sheet or corrugated iron fencing and barbed wire protectors around their properties. Governor Powes Parkop says all fencing will now be standardized, as part of overall efforts to portray Port Moresby as a safe and live-able city in the world:
Saraga Police Station
A new police station, valued at K600,000, has been opened at Saraga, Six Mile in the National Capital District. National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop and Moresby-South MP Justin Tkatchenko had contributed K300,000 of taxpayers money each on the project.
Businessman Martin Miriori and his wife Scholastica are contesting the Bougainville Elections. Each are contesting different seats. Martin is contesting the Ioro constituency seat in the Panguna district of Central Bougainville while Scholastica is eyeing the Tsitalato constituency seat in Buka.

Transparency International PNG
Commenting on the suspension of Central Supply and Tenders Board (CSTB) compliance and audit manager Edward Oa, Transparency International said by suspending an officer for stating what appeared to be well known fact, CSTB made the situation worse and improvements will not happen when criticism is punished.
Tighter Exchange Regulations Wanted
PNG's Treasurer has signalled that the government wants Central Bank regulations tightened to prevent falling exchange rates. Patrick Pruaitch says companies and foreign exchange dealers have adversely affected the availability of foreign exchange within PNG by conducting transactions in overseas locations.
Murder in Morobe
An elderly man has been brutally murdered and chopped into pieces in Papua New Guinea in a cult-like killing in Finschhafen District over a land dispute between two villages.
Aircraft Maintenance Contract
Tamworth, Australia's reputation as an aeronautical training base has been boosted this week with the first group of aircraft maintenance students arriving from Papua New Guinea for a two year contract.
