Dual Citizenship

PNG Immigration and Citizenship Service Authority has informed the General Public that the former Papua New Guinea citizens who are now citizens of a foreign country and over the age of 18 and are still holding on to a PNG Passport must immediately surrender their PNG passports. The Authority pointed out that dual citizenship is not automatic and those have obtained a foreign citizenship and in possession of foreign passport automatically lost their PNG citizenship. Those who wish to resume PNG citizenship and dual citizenship can apply for a new passport.

PNG Govt Policies

PNG's prime minister says he has re-committed to fostering economic growth for the country. Mr O'Neill told parliament that it was time to put personality politics aside and debate policy. There was no mention however of a plan to establish an Independent Commission Against Corruption.

Hanuabada Fire

At least 150 villagers have been left homeless after a fire tore through homes in Hanuabada Village, just five minutes from downtown Port Moresby. The customary landowners living in Hanuabada Village come from the Motu and Koitabu tribal groups.

Gospel Band Tours PNG

The Planetshakers, a Melbourne-based church band, has held one night rallies in Lae, Port Moresby and Kimbe. The night rallies drew thousands of fans and worshipers, men, women and children from all walks of life turned up in numbers to part take in the 'Believe 2017' PNG tour.

Malaysia Association

The Malaysia Association of Papua New Guinea raised a total of K932,000 at its recent charity dinner and Golf tournament here in Port Moresby. There were 35 business houses that took part.

Australian Federal Police

Allegations of dysfunction, harassment and waste have been levelled at the multi-million dollar Australian Federal Police (AFP) mission overseeing the 2018 APEC summit in PNG. One of the most concerning claims is that an Australian Defence Force representative in Port Moresby stated at a Joint Security Task Force meeting earlier this year that there had been no progress in APEC planning and that situation had become critical.

Mosquitoes Win

PNG is again the best men's team outside Australia after beating New Zealand by a point in a thrilling division one Grand Final of the AFL International Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Mosquitoes won bragging rights as the first team in AFL International Cup men's competition to win back-to-back titles in a war of attrition with Oceania neighbours, the Hawks.

The youngest player in the men's competition, Hewago 'Ace' Oea, was named best on ground with a comprehensive display, utilising lightning speed and tremendous ball skills.

Port Moresby Future City

The National Capital District Governor, Powes Parkop, says the PNG Government had already invested more than 2-billion Kina on development projects in Port Moresby. Mr Parkop says, Port Moresby will undergo more transformation over the next five years to reach the goal of making it the Future City in the South Pacific.

Vale Justice Lenalia

Justice Salatiel Lenalia, the senior residential judge of East New Britain, has passed away in Port Moresby at the Pacific International Hospital on the 15th of August at 1:30am after suffering a heart attack.

Living in POM

PNG has some of the most naturally appealing places to visit and even live in. But when it comes to some of the places fit to live in Port Moresby is not on top. The nation's capital, Port Moresby is named, yet again, as one of the least liveable cities in the world, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). Medical Transfers 'Suspicious'

Thirty men detained by Australia on Manus Island were recently transferred to Port Moresby for medical treatment in circumstances described as suspicious. Mr Boochani said the transfers were suspicious because some of the men were only suffering from simple ailments. Authorities are trying to evict about 800 men from the Manus Island detention centre, which is due to close by November.

Man Detained in Australia

A Papua New Guinean has been detained in Australia for allegedly smuggling six Chinese into Torres Strait Island in Queensland, border divisional commander Assistant Commissioner Donald Yamasombi said. The 55-year old has been charged with human smuggling by the Australian Federal Police and is in police custody on Thursday Island.

Ventura Bus Donation

Ventura Bus Lines, in Victoria, Australia, is helping women and girls travel safely in Papua New Guinea, with the donation of four buses for the Ginigoada Foundation's women-only bus project. Four buses have departed Melbourne bound for Port Moresby. They are being donated by Ventura as part of the UN Women's project to make Port Moresby a safer city for women and children.

Oil Search Raises Goal

Oil Search Ltd., the PNG-focused energy explorer, raised its full-year production target because of record output from the country's liquefied natural gas project. The company lifted the lower end of its 2017 production guidance to 29 MMboe from the previous 28.5 MMboe, while leaving the upper end at 30.5 MMboe, citing record output at PNG LNG, the company said in a recent statement.

Madang District Spending

MP Brian Kramer says the Madang district will have its expenditure of public funds accounted for and reported online. Kramer told The National Newspaper that corruption had reached the four corners of the country, and there was some trace of it in every district.

With with a bachelor's degree in accounting from the Divine Word University, Kramer is the founder of a non-governmental organisation called Youth Link.

Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato said Elections for the Southern Highlands Provincial seat cannot fail. Mr Gamato confirmed that the election manager for Eastern Highlands Steven Gore Kaupa has been appointed as the provincial returning officer to oversee the continuation and completion of the Southern Highlands Provincial count.

Healthy Teens School Program

Students from Marianville have recently taken part in the Healthy Teens School Program or HTSP. Earlier this year, the PNG Cancer Foundation successfully conducted HTSP in Bubia Lutheran Primary and the Christ the King School in Morobe Province. The program saw over 1,400 students in grades 6, 7 and 8 plus community locals to participate.

Manus Island Detention Centre

The new PNG government is reportedly refusing to allow Australia to close the Manus Island detention centre, leaving behind hundreds of asylum seekers, by its vaunted deadline in October. The newly sworn-in attorney general, Davis Steven, has told Australia's high commissioner that his government had not agreed to a 31 October closure, as flagged by Australia before the PNG election

Buimo Jail

Buimo jail in Lae, Morobe Province, should be relocated because most of the jail premises have been washed away by the flooding Bumbu River. It is under threat of completely being washed away therefore needed immediate National Government attention for relocation. Buimo jail commander Felix Namane told the Morobe leaders during an orientation of Morobe MPs at Lae International Hotel last Friday that it was in the interest of the Correctional Services that the jail is rebuilt on higher ground.

Health Centre Out of Drugs

The Misima health centre in the Samarai-Murua district of Milne Bay has an acute shortage of medicine and drugs. The health centre at Bwagaoia is also unable to treat cuts and wounds and cannot provide plaster, they said, adding that at one point, an insulation tape was used to attach the hose for the drip to a patient.

Borneo Pacific Pharmaceuticals

Health and HIV/Aids Minister Sir Puka Temu, says Borneo Pacific Pharmaceuticals is one of 56 established suppliers in the country and has won a contract to procure medical supplies and should not be seen as the only company supplying medical kits. Sir Puka said this in response to recent public commentary on Borneo Pacific being contracted to procure 100 per cent medical supply kits for aid posts and health centres.

Five more Independent Members of Parliament have joined PANGU. The MPs include former Prime Minister and Moresby North-West MP, Mekere Morauta, Central Province Governor Robert Agarobe, Rigo MP Lekwa Gure, Wabag MP Dr Lino Tom and South Fly MP Sekie Agisa. The five MPs said the success of Basil's leadership in bringing back services to the people under the PANGU banner was in alignment to the vision they had, and that is to bring the government back to the people.

Justice Sakora to Face Tribunal

The third most senior Judge of the National and Supreme Court, Justice Bernard Sakora, will go before a Tribunal on allegations of delayed judgments in court cases heard and reserved for decision. Justice Sakora is now suspended from performing the duties of the Office of a Judge of the National and Supreme Courts of Papua New Guinea until the JLSC conveys its decision to him.
