Kiunga Plane Crash
An Australian pilot, from Sydney, is among 12 people who were killed when a Britten Norman-Islander plane crashed as it tried to land at Kiunga in Western province from Oksapmin, emergency authorities say. The PNG Civil Aviation Safety Authority is carrying out an investigation into the crash.

Supreme Court Judge Detained
A PNG Supreme Court judge has been arrested and charged with corruption. Bernard Sakora was arrested by members of the country's fraud and anti-corruption squad as he left his Port Moresby home. In a brief statement, the police said the charge was related to a payment Mr Sakora received from a lawyer at the centre of the scandal surrounding alleged illegal payments to the firm Paraka Lawyers.
It has been alleged that Sakora received K100,000 from a law firm for the sale of a second-hand motor vehicle.

PM's Lawyer Charged
Anti-corruption police in PNG have charged the Prime Minister's lawyer, Tiffany Twivey, with perverting the course of justice. Twivey was taken into custody at Jackson's Airport when she recently returned to PNG.
Twivey has been representing Prime Minister Peter O'Neill in his attempts to stop the anti-corruption officers executing an arrest warrant for him.

Attorney General Detained
National and Anti-corruption detectives have arrested and charged the country's Attorney-General Ano Pala. Pala was picked up and taken in for questioning by the Fraud squad at Jacksons International Airport in Port Moresby on his recent arrival from Brisbane.
Pala denied the charges and told reporters outside the cell that he was paying the price of being an honest leader.
This is the second time PNG's fraud squad has arrested the Attorney-General.

Illegal Immigrant Removal
Prime Minister Peter O'Neill said an inter-government team has been established to be led by the Foreign Affairs Department to visit all provinces throughout the country to check on illegal migrants conducting businesses and also foreigners conducting businesses reserved for nationals.

Rabaul Queen Case
The managing director of Rabaul Shipping in Papua New Guinea, Peter Sharp, has pleaded not guilty to the charges of manslaughter and for sending an unseaworthy vessel out to sea.
Mr Sharp is on trial in the Kokopo National Court over the 2012 sinking of the MV Rabaul Queen when more than 170 people drowned off the Morobe coast.

Madang Ethnic Unrest
Additional police have been deployed to Madang from Lae after houses and vehicles were destroyed as people from the Sepik and Western Highlands residents set up roadblocks in the town.

The Pacific Marine Industrial Zone project in Madang, will have a town to cater for workers at the project, PNG Department of Trade, Commerce and Industry Secretary John Andrias says.

61st UPNG Graduation
Over 1260 students have graduated from the five faculties of the University of Papua New Guinea. The graduation was conducted over two days due to the large number graduating. Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Tommy Tomscoll told UPNG graduates that their success was PNG's success. UPNG vice-chancellor Prof Albert Mellam has urged graduating students to seek ways to be successful in this transforming and demanding era of industrial revolution.

Expat Doctors Needed
Health Department secretary Pascoe Kase says the country needs foreign doctors to cater for the current shortage in the country. He said the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) School of Medicine was not producing enough doctors, forcing the department to recruit foreign doctors as an interim measure.

New Southern Highlands Footbridge
People living between the boarders of Nipa-Kutubu, Mendi-Munihu and Imbonggu districts in Southern Highlands now have a new footbridge. The Komb footbridge serves school children, teachers and health workers and more than 5000 people. Komb footbridge working committee chairman Huk Wellin said the working committee received K5000 and completed the footbridge.

A group of Morobe villagers hope to lure tourists through an "air wreck trek" which explores World War 11 relics. Bandong villagers in Wain-Erap, Nawaebin Morobe hope that adventurers and tourists will come to explore war relics and the untapped bio-diversity left uncovered near the Sarawaget Range.

Dengue Fever Outbreak
Dr. Mathias Sapuri, a senior PNG medical doctor says the dengue outbreak is moving toward an epidemic stage and people must take precautions of the virus. Sapuri said there were 37 confirmed cases of dengue virus infections at Port Moresby General Hospital and urban clinics in the National Capital District. Two deaths were also reported at the general hospital due to dengue.

Highlands Highway
The Highlands Highway was recently cut off after heavy rain caused flooding of the Mangyang River at the Arafira village in Markham, Morobe. Traffic to Lae and Madang and the Highlands region was unable to pass. Morobe Works project engineer Danny Philip said it would cost between K50,000 and K60,000 and two days to repair the road.

Over 400 staff at the Mt. Hagen General Hospital resigned from duties including medical doctors, nursing officers, community health workers and allied health workers. They are blaming the Health Minister for the mass resignation.

PNG Hunters
A last second field goal has given the PNG Hunters a dramatic 11-10 victory against the previously unbeaten Townsville Blackhawks in the Queensland Cup rugby league clash in Port Moresby. The Hunters are now level with the Blackhawks and Burleigh Bears with five wins each from six matches but remain third overall on points.

Air Niugini Hoskins
Air Niugini has unveiled its third Fokker 70 aircraft. It will be named "Hoskins". The naming of the aeroplane will coincide with the PNG Games in November which West New Britain is hosting.

Dual Citizenship
Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Hon. Rimbink Pato, said that the recent passing of the Dual Citizenship Bill in Parliament concerns the consequential amendments made to the Constitution and the Citizenship Act which will enable the grant of dual citizenship to person as qualified under the criteria set out by these amendments.
