Remember that this mailing list is mainly meant for people who have an interest and already know a little bit about the people and geography of Papua New Guinea. The PNG Kina, which is mentioned from time to time, is currently worth somewhere around XX - XX United States cents but varies on a daily basis.

If you are really keen on finding out what the Kina is worth a currency converter for most world currencies can be located at http://www.michie.net/pnginfo/moni.html

For those who are not so familiar with the geography of Papua New Guinea I suggest taking a look http://maps.expedia.com and then click on the find a map option. Go to this link for a quick start to a link to a map of Port Moresby. http://www.michie.net/pnginfo/pom-map.html

Also remember that the accuracy of the information in this newsletter should not be relied upon - it is, after all, a gossip newsletter.

This article was going to be sent out next weekend but it seems to be growing very big.

* More Gossip??

Due to a misunderstanding the police had Waigani Committal Court raise a bench warrant for Public Services Minister (Ian Ling-Stuckey) Stuckey, who is facing 6 charges failed to appear at the court. Apparently he went to the wrong courthouse. The charges were later dropped due to this confusion.

Half of Port Moresby has been plunged into darkness due to a backhoe digging up the main power cable at the Konedobu Elcom sub-station. * New Port Moresby Airport

Police have expressed concern about an apparent lapse of security at the new International Airport recently when the PNGBC foreign exchange desk was robbed. Normal passengers are amazed as well due to the fact that even passengers with tickets find it difficult to gain access to the building.

Also on the new airport I hear that some of the old Aussie airman are distressed due to the fact that "Jackson" does not get a mention anywhere at the new terminal. I believe they attempted to have a small plate attached to the building but couldn't find anyone who was interested in helping to commemorate Squadron Leader Jackson.

Gaming Board rescues PNGSF
by HENRY MORABANG

THE NATIONAL Gaming Board (NGB) yesterday donated an additional K100,000 to support the Papua New Guinea contingent to next month's Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The chairman of NGB DANIEL Mapiria presented the money to the Sports Federation official to meet a shortfall of K156,000. The balance will be met in the form of player's K1,000 levy.

The Sports Federation Secretary General John Dawanincura was a happy man when he received the cheque stating that he could not raise enough money despite the successful "Celebrity Walk" and "Prime Minister's dinner".
