Dual Citizenship
Parliament has unanimously voted to amend the Constitution to allow for dual citizenship. One of the main reasons why Papua New Guineans who live overseas continue to push this dual citizenship issue is that it is their country of birth and there is a strong bond with the country and regaining that citizenship will formalise that feeling.

The 6th PNG Games Host Organising Committee headed by Chairman Phil Franklin has said that the two-week event in November 2014 will need K30 million (US$11.6 million) to stage.

Nautilus Exploration
The Canadian deep-sea mining company, Nautilus Minerals, will start sea floor mining exploration in the waters of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands soon. Nautilus has licences around Bismarck Sea and the Woodlark areas and parts of the Solomon Islands.

Carstenz Pyramid
Although not in PNG the Isle of Man newspaper thinks it is -- The acting chief inspector with the Isle of Man Constabulary returned to the Isle after summiting the remote Carstenz Pyramid in Papua New Guinea, at 15,629 feet (4,884 metres) the tallest peak. Just to make sure that his Seven Summits Challenge achievement could never be in doubt he also climbed Australia's Mount Kosciuszko, said by some to be the highest peak in Australasia.

Parliament Web Site
The PNG Parliament web site has a database of information on Parliament including profiles of MPs, bills and papers, committee report and Hansard report.
The European Union funded the web site for K1 million. The project was born from an agreement signed by the Government, Transparency International PNG and EU in April to promote transparency and democracy.

The National Agriculture Research Institute (NARI) at Kerevat in East New Britain province recently celebrated the official commissioning of infrastructure and allied research facilities and staged an agricultural innovation show.

National Broadcasting Corporation has begun celebrating its 40th anniversary in East Sepik. Radio East Sepik actually began 10 years before the NBC was set up. Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare was one of the announcers who worked at the station.

Sorcery Conference
Experts from a range of fields have gathered in the country to discuss an increase in sorcery killings and come up with ways to stop them. There have been a spate of gruesome sorcery killings this year, including one where a women was burnt alive on a main street in one of PNG's biggest towns.

Food Security Issues
Australia and PNG have signed off on a new project addressing rising food insecurity among smallholder cocoa and oil palm farmers in the country. Tropicair
Tropicair has temporarily suspended its operations following the recent crash of one of its four Cessna Caravans in the Gulf province. The crash killed three out of ten occupants on board when the pilot made a forced landing after experiencing engine trouble between Kimusi and Purari in Gulf province.

Population Cap
Ken Fairweather, the Member of Parliament for Sumkar District in Madang Province, says population growth in PNG is faster than western nations and essential services such as education and health cannot cope. He has rolled out a free contraception programme to slash the number of women giving birth in his district.

The BSP School Kriket Program run by Cricket PNG aims to reach 150,000 students in 2013 and to date they are on target. Through the BSP School Kriket program Cricket PNG has taken steps to achieve this aim, by developing innovative programs at the school level.

The PNG Supreme Court has overturned a three-year injunction preventing the publication of an 812-page commission of inquiry into false compensation scams that cost the country more than $300 million.

Miss South Pacific Pageant
The 2013 Miss South Pacific Beauty Pageant is being held in Honiara, Solomon Islands. Twenty-four year old Miss Papua New Guinea, Christine Aiwa, originally from Chimbu, Sepik and Morobe province parentage, is taking part in the contest.

Climate Change
A new report by the Asian Development Bank has assessed the potential impacts of climate change on agriculture, fisheries, tourism, coral reefs and human health in PNG, Timor Leste, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Fiji and Samoa. The Bank says reduced food crops in PNG will be a main cause of economic damage brought on by climate change.

LNG Health Care
The PNG Liquefied Natural Gas has launched a K6.9 million initiative to improve paediatric medicine in the country. The child and maternal health care programme which began earlier this month and led by Houston-based Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) and Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in partnership with PNG LNG, was launched in Port Moresby recently by the Health and HIV/AIDS Minister Michael Malabag.
